Validation Engineer

    • Eindhoven, Netherlands
  • Research & Development

Job description

Climate change is real and we need to act fast. Our purpose is to restore the carbon balance in our atmosphere. We believe it’s important to have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the climate. Are you ready to join us on our mission? 🌎

Role
Things are being turned into reality at Carbyon. Recently, the engineering team has been putting their blood, sweat and tears into the detailed design of our next prototype. (Custom) parts and components are being produced and will be shipped soon. While the integration of our prototypes will be led by our Integration Engineer Nikola, eventually we want to close the V-cycle by validating whether the prototype functions according to the given specs. And that’s where you come into play as our Validation Engineer!

Essentially, you’ll be the machine owner as which you’re responsible for preparing and executing tests. This’ll vary from preparing a detailed test plan up to accurately execute the tests. Besides, you’ll make sure reporting and documentation has been done consistently and properly.

Next to testing, you will also be responsible for maintenance and upgrade activities of those machines. This comes with coordinating and overseeing both planned and unplanned maintenance and upgrading activities as well as systematically trouble shoot.

Responsibilities

To give you a stronger idea of your responsibilities, we’ve put them into a few bullets. While roles at Carbyon can be a bit fluid over time, it does snapshot what you’ll be responsible for;

Preparing, executing & reporting on tests;

  • Preparing a detailed test plan based upon given requirements from the internal requester. Whenever it’s not feasible to turn the requirements into an executable test, you’ll challenge the internal requester and see what can be done alternatively.

  • Accurately execute the tests, thanks to which you make sure the output of the tests is valid and thus trustworthy.

  • Making sure reporting and documentation has been done consistently and properly. This comes with consistently updating the logbook. Whenever required, you’ll act as the feedback loop towards the engineering team.

Maintenance & upgrades;

  • Coordinate and oversee both planned and unplanned maintenance driven tasks. Whenever risks are being detected, you’ll proactively flag these.

  • Identify when upgrades are required. During upgrades, you’ll act as the machine owner and coordinate efforts.

Trouble shooting;

  • Whenever issues occur, you’ll trouble shoot by bringing a systematic approach ensuring a consistent root cause analysis.

  • If troubleshooting takes too long, you will escalate accordingly.

Safety;

  • Safeguarding safety standards and raise the bar of safety based on needs and a continuous improvement mindset.

Job requirements

Our ideal candidate is someone who

Brings a high level of self-management, eagerness to learn and a continuous improvement mindset. Besides, you’ll bring;

  •      A bachelor’s degree in engineering.

  •      3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience;

    • You know what it’s like to run tests of a multidisciplinary system in being in proto stage.

    • You know what it’s like to maintain and upgrade technology that’s under development.

  •      Strong stakeholder-management skills; we don’t expect you to do everything solely. However, we do expect you to reflectively know your own limitations and group the right people together when needed.

  •      Standardize and automate your work; you naturally want to avoid doing stuff twice. Instead, you turn it into a process and automate wherever possible.

  •      System understanding; We don’t expect you to understand how our technology functionally works from day one. But you do bring the abstract ability to make this your own over time.

  •      A high level of flexibility as our environment can be quite unpredictable.

  •      A strong sense of responsibility as you’ll be our first – and currently only – Validation Engineer.

  •      The ability to work independently; you proactively raise flags, and you dare to ask and offer support to/from others.

  •      The intrinsic motivation to achieve our mission!
